We are excited to share our lineup of free & paid workshops being offered this April, May, & June.
We have a wide variety, ranging from easy to learn Underglaze Transfers to more advanced workshops like throwing really large platters (requiring a special extra large bat). We are also trying out something new, a 4-week Dinner Set workshop. Members will create a 4 piece place setting from throwing to trimming to glazing. Please take the time to read through the workshop descriptions you are interested in to make sure you have the skill level required, can complete the necessary prep, are able to attend alternate dates, and/or have the supplies/tools needed for the workshop. Some workshops provide materials which we incorporate into the base price cost, but for the Free Gold Luster workshop BHC does not provide the luster. Workshop descriptions will call out tools, materials, and pottery you will need to bring to the workshop so read through them completely. We appreciate your continued patience while we refine our workshop program. The changes made this Spring should help with the confusion members shared with us about Winter signups. Signing up for paid & free workshops will be done in the same place now. You will have the opportunity to select up to 5 workshops, but are not limited to 5. If you would like to sign up for more email teambhc@blossomhillcrafts.com. 2-3 business days after you sign up a confirmation email will be sent. Please review it and let us know if changes need to be made. If you don’t receive a confirmation email check your junk or spam folders before emailing or calling us to follow up. We want to be sure you are receiving our communications and are signed up for the correct workshops. We’ve also made paying for workshops even easier. Naked Raku
Naked Raku is an alternative firing technique where slip and glaze are applied to a bisque fired pot. While the pot is firing in the raku kiln, cracks form along the slip surface. This allows carbon through to the surface of the pot leaving grey to black where the cracks formed. You will learn how to safely remove your pot from the kiln and place it into a reduction can. Your hot pot is then placed in water to help the slip fall away from the pot to reveal a beautiful pattern formed from the cracks. Since no glaze stays on the pot at the end, this process is called "naked raku”. Naked Raku pots are decorative only and are not water tight or food safe. Requirements: Have 2-3 bisque pots, 6" to 8" inch in diameter or less, ready the day of the workshop. Throw & bisque your pots early. You can always store them in your car or at home and bring them back for the workshop.
