Class 2: October 21, 2023 (3 hr) 10-1:00 Class 3: October 28, 2023 (3hr) 10-1:00 10 max students Students to bring for first class: Black/White artwork ideas no larger than 8.5” x 11” Have you wanted to learn how to make and use silkscreens for your ceramics? Join Denise Soultanian at Blossom Hill Crafts for this 3 day class. You will learn how to make a silkscreen with your own designs, transfer these images to newsprint and then onto clay. This is an advanced class that will require a little bit of homework and hopefully lots of learning and fun! Class #1 will focus on the first step of silkscreen making: the transparency. Denise will go over which types of images work well and how to transfer your image onto the transparency sheet. Please bring your black and white artwork ideas, no larger than 8.5 x 11”, to the first day of class. The homework this week will be to draw or print your artwork on the provided transparency and bring it to class #2. (1-1.5 hour class) Class #2 you will use your transparency to create a reusable silkscreen sheet with a light sensitive process. We will also have a demo on rolling out slabs, making tiles and forming press plates. Students may have time to make their own tiles that we will store for the week. The homework for this week will be to make soft leather hard tiles or press plate slabs and bring them to class #3. (3 hour class) Class #3 will be the day we use our silkscreens to create art! We will start by running underglaze through our screens onto newsprint to create multiple prints. We will then add layers of colored slip to the newsprint and then transfer these images onto the clay. Finished project ideas include decorative wall tiles and press plates. Other ideas are also welcome! |
