Learn how to safely apply real gold to your pots with Jamie! Gold luster and decals are “overglaze” decorations that are applied to completed, glaze-fired pottery. Once applied, gold luster and decals require a third firing to a low temperature. This additional firing is included in the workshop. Pottery with gold luster on it is food safe but not microwave safe.
Preparation
Please bring 3-5 COMPLETED, glazed pots (that have already gone through a final glaze firing) to the workshop. Pots must be smaller than 10 inchesin any direction. The pots can have Cone 6 or Cone 10 glazes on them, it does not matter. You can bring pots made at other studios, but please no commercial ceramics or pieces from paint-your-own-pottery studios. Please note that gold luster takes on the finish of the glazed surface that it is applied to. If gold luster is applied to pots with a shiny glaze on them, the luster will be a shiny gold. If the luster is applied to pots with a matte glaze on them, it will be a matte gold. If shiny gold is the final look that you are going for, be sure to bring in pots with shiny glazes on them!
