Instructor: Jamie Dates: Friday, October 20th Time: 7pm - 9pm 10 participants maximum Students bring: 3-5 bisque-fired pots to glaze. (Members only) Calling all special effects glaze enthusiasts! Join glaze tech Jamie for a fun workshop utilizing crawl glazes. Crawl glazes are formulated to separate into beads of glaze on the surface of pots, giving a unique textured appearance. Please note that this renders them not safe for food surfaces. They are intended to be used as accents on decorative pieces, vases, planters, etc. We will not be carrying these glazes in our regular selection, so take advantage of this special opportunity to use glazes that are otherwise not available in the studio! Please bring 3-5 bisque-fired pieces that you would like to apply crawl glazes to. Glazes and tools will be provided. We will be firing these glazes at Cone 6, so I encourage you to take advantage of our unique selection of cone 6 clay bodies. This is especially important if you would like to apply the glazes on a flower vase, as using the proper clay will ensure that it matures during the firing and won’t leak water. Participants will have access to lichen (first image) and mud crack (second image) glazes which will be available in white, and a few select colors. Crawl glazes begin to crack on the surface of the pots upon drying, so we will be gluing our pieces to cookies (drip plates) to ensure a safe kiln loading. Cookies in standard sizes will be provided, though if you have a piece with an unusual-shaped base, you will need to provide one yourself. Due to the small nature of the electric kilns, please do not bring in pieces that are more than 12 inches in any direction. All experience levels welcome! |
