Learn to slab build in our dedicated handbuilding room. We offer a small class size to set you up for success. Our projects have been thoughtfully chosen to provide students with new techniques each week. Learning to use a slab roller, applying slip, and adding texture are just a few. By the end of this 5 week series you will acquire a solid set of handbuilding and glazing skills to start you on your creative pottery journey. This class series includes, a quality set of pottery tools, unlimited practice time and unlimited clay. Wheel Throwing Classes
Our Beginner Wheel Throwing Class offers the lowest student to teacher ratio (5:1) in Silicon Valley. Full classes have two teachers the first week to ensure quality instruction time spent with each student. Our Beginner Classes also include Open Studio (7 days a week), a set of quality beginner tools, and all clay. A more detailed class description is outlined on each class page. Typical 6 Week Wheel Class Week 1 (3hrs) Mandatory: Wheel Throwing Demo - The first week will be 3 hours long so you can become acquainted with the studio, its processes, and learn to throw your first pots. Every session after the first week will be 2 hours. Week 2 (2hrs) Mandatory: Trimming Demo - You will learn to trim pots thrown week 1 to achieve a good foot rim and even walls. More throwing if time permits. Week 3 (2hrs): Trimming,Throwing, and Shaping - Shaping will be introduced once you are able to pull a cylinder with ease. Mastering cylinders is our ultimate goal for you because they are the starting point for most wheel thrown pots. Week 4 (2hrs):Class Project - Each Beginner series will have special project that is either wheel thrown or handbuilt. Week 5 (2hrs): Trimming/Waxing - Open Studio privileges will end with this class. You will trim your final pots so they can be fast track for bisque firing. You will also gather all your pots bisqueware (fired pots thrown over the previous weeks) and prepare them with wax resist for the final class. Week 6 (2hrs): Glaze - You will gather & wax all remaining bisqueware pots, then learn to apply glaze. 10-14 day later your finished pottery will be ready for pickup.
